Orphic Gallery - Reading and book signing on Saturday, October 4th, 2014, with author Anthony Robustelli

The Orphic Gallery cordially invites you to a reading and book signing on Saturday, October 4th, 2014 from 1-3 pm with author Anthony Robustelli featuring his newest book I Want to Tell You.  The Orphic Gallery is located at the Roxbury Corner Store at 53525 State Highway 30, Roxbury, NY, at the corner of Main and Bridge Streets.

Anthony Robustelli is a producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, singer and author of I Want To Tell You – The Definitive Guide To The Music Of The Beatles Volume 1: 1962/1963. With I Want to Tell You, Robustelli takes the reader on an unparalleled journey behind the scenes of some of the world’s most iconic music by truly the world’s most iconic group, The Beatles. In his in depth, song-by-song analysis, told as only a musician and die-hard fan can, he peels back the layers of The Beatles’ recordings. In doing so, he tells a compelling story of how their music came to be and why it was destined to turn the pop and rock ‘n roll music scene on its ear — not just for the time — but forever.

A noted Beatles expert, Anthony also hosts The Beatles Multi Track Meltdown, a radio show on internet radio station BeatlesARama.com. The weekly show features stripped down, deconstructed mixes of classic Beatles songs highlighting different instruments and vocals in a truly new and eye-opening way. Imagine sitting in the control room at EMI studios and having the opportunity to peel away the layers of a song, discovering new elements that you never knew existed, yet are integral to these iconic songs. The Beatles Multi Track Meltdown is the closest you can get to that experience. Anthony also takes the show on the road for a live show that includes the stripped down mixes together with rare video footage. He is very excited to be bringing the live Multi Track Meltdown to The Orphic Gallery in Roxbury, NY for the last weekend of Bob Gruen’s Rock Scene exhibit.

When not busy with Beatles related activities Anthony, heads his own recording studio, Shady Bear Productions, which has facilities in Brooklyn and The Catskill Mountains. Shady Bear Productions counts a number of high-profile commercial clients among its roster including H & M, Head & Shoulders, 1-800 Flowers and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. Known for their “non-jingle jingle,” Shady Bear Productions continues to be in demand for those clients seeking a more edgy tone and feel.

As a musician, Anthony has played and toured with nationally recognized acts including the late, great Bo Diddley, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Kelly Price, The Jungle Brothers and Brian Jackson.  His career highlights include opening for Sir Paul McCartney in front of more than 100,000 fans at the U.K.’s famed Glastonbury Festival. Additionally, Anthony has shared the stage with acts including The Black Eyed Peas, Santana, Wu Tang Clan, Ben Harper, Taj Mahal, Ziggy Marley and Buddy Guy.

Anthony is a prolific writer who has six albums to his credit, Another Fatal Blow, Grown Tired of the Con, Comfort is so Rare and a six-movement straight-ahead jazz suite, entitled Travels of a Lost Soul. His music has been featured in multiple award-winning independent films and documentaries.

Anthony is a graduate of New York University and has a Bachelor’s degree in jazz performance and a Master’s degree in Education. He lives with his wife Sharon and daughter Ella in Brooklyn, NY and the Catskill Mountains.

At his presentation at the Orphic Gallery on October 4th, Anthony will read selections from I Want to Tell You, play and discuss excepts from The Beatles Multi Track Meltdown, and sign copies of his book which will be available for purchase through Yesterday’s News, the gallery’s darling retail unit.

Zonder Kennedy to Perform at Orphic Gallery on Saturday, September 20

You are cordially invited to a live musical performance by Zonder Kennedy and the Scoville Junkies on Saturday, September 20th at 4 pm at Roxbury’s Orphic Gallery - where art and music collide.

You are cordially invited to a live musical performance by Zonder Kennedy and the Scoville Junkies on Saturday, September 20th at 4 pm at Roxbury’s Orphic Gallery – where art and music collide.  The band’s scorching blues/punk is very familiar to patrons of the Orphic Gallery having performed on the deck at the gallery’s grand opening in 2012 and two other notable appearances since then.

Zonder Kennedy and The Scoville Junkies have established a new bar for incendiary modern blues – music that echoes the genre’s deep past, but reverberates into the future with daring arrangement, high energy and a keen, lean ‘n’ dirty sound.  The band is made up of Zonder Kennedy on guitar, Ari Huff on bass, and Bruce Martin of the Tom Tom Club on drums.  On Saturday evening Zonder and bandmates will serve up a sizzling selection of original works and choice covers from artists such as Bob Dylan, Depeche Mode & Johnny Cash, Tom Waits and others.

Zonder has led an adventurous life ricocheting around the world playing guitar with the likes of John Campbell and Doyle Bramhill, Sr.  But in his solo career Zonder has truly developed a singular, distinctive style combining locally sourced blues with artisanal rock in a scorching musical potage. Bruce Martin is a highly accomplished percussionist and multi-instrumentalist who has performed for the past twenty years with The Tom Tom Club and a host of other musical acts including Carly Simon, Dr. John, Cindy Lauper, Andy Summers, Cassandra Wilson, Christopher Walken, Pine Top Perkins, and Bull Moose Jackson.

On Saturday, September 20th, Zonder Kennedy and The Scoville Junkies will bring their edgy, hard-chiseled six-string attack back to The Orphic Gallery where they will begin at 4 pm and play until 8 pm.  The performance is open to the public, all ages, dogs on leash.  The gallery is located at the corner of Main & Bridge Streets in Roxbury.

Town Board Unapproved Minutes – August 11, 2014

UNAPPROVED MINUTES

August 11, 2014

The regular meeting of the Town Board was held August 11, 2014 at 7:30 pm at the Grand Gorge Civic Center. PRESENT: Supervisor Thomas S. Hynes, Councilmen Edward Raeder, Allen Hinkley and Carol Murray, Highway Supt. Stephen Schuman, Assessor Robert Breglio and 15 residents. ABSENT: Councilman Gene Cronk and Attorney Kevin Young.

The Minutes of the July 14, 2014 meeting were approved on motion of Edward Raeder second by Allen Hinkley.

AYES – 4 Raeder, Hinkley, Murray, Hynes
NAYS – 0
ABSENT – 1 Cronk

Robert Breglio, Assessor, gave the Town Board a written report and hi-lited certain items including: the verification portion of the revaluation is 90% complete, requested the Town Board adopt the Uniform Assessment Standards published by the Office of Real Property Tax Services in September 2011 and discussed finding 5 new structures built without a building permit that have been reported to the Building Inspector.

Councilman Gene Cronk arrived to the meeting at 7:45 pm.

Peg Ellsworth stated the CDBG Program involves 16 properties where 4 have been completed and 10 are in progress, discussed issues with contractor insurances, stated plans for Labor Dar are shaping up for picnics, music and fireworks. Carolynn Faraci, Parks Clerk, stated WI-FI is now available at the park, the summer youth program will end August 14th, park bookings continue into 2015 and the final movie in the park scheduled for August 21st has been moved to the Roxbury Arts building due to cold nights.

Stephen Schuman, Highway Supt. stated stone and oil roads have been completed except for Mac More Rd. and Lake St., reclamation in the gravel bank has begun, CHIPS monies are expected in September, work is underway to prepare roads now for next year resurfacing, discussed repairs on equipment where Councilman Cronk would like to see more repairs being done in house and not sent out, culverts have been replaced on Old Ferris Farm Rd., and discussed the possibility of rising salt prices.

Supv. Hynes stated a water leak has been detected on Vega Mountain Rd and may possibly be under the road. The line currently feeds three buildings. The matter will be looked into further for repairs and possibly installing three separate service lines.

Darrell Slater expressed concerns with not yet receiving a building permit on his Main St. property. The property is in the Historic District and requires an application to the Historic Preservation Commission for review before the building permit can be issued. The Town Clerk’s Office notifies the Historic Commission of any building permits submitted for work in the Historic District. The building permit was received after the Historic Commission convened in July and Mr. Slater stated he refuses to submit an application to the Historic Commission and added he will continue to work on the building but requested that his building permit be issued. Supv. Hynes requested Mr. Slater attend the Historic Commission’s next meeting scheduled for August 18, 2014 where they will review the matter and a determination will be made, however, Mr. Slater stated he would be on vacation then.

Edward Dalski questioned the status of cell service for the area. Councilman Allen Hinkley says Delaware County Emergency Services is close to submitting an application to replace the tower on Jump Brook Rd. that will hopefully attract carriers to sign on for the needed service. Mr. Hinkley also requested residents to contact their state legislators regarding the matter. Mr. Dalski also requested flower barrels for Main St. Roxbury as the ones in Stamford look so nice lining the street. It was stated, for several years, Roxbury Rotary Club did barrels on Main St. but the barrels got broken so only the flower beds at the ends of the hamlet are now being done and added the group has received a donation to be used for flowers next year. Grand Gorge also has flower barrels lining the street.

David Martin questioned the status of electric installation on two light poles in Grand Gorge for wreaths and playground materials. When NYSEG replaced the poles a couple of years ago, they also took the wreath hookups. Supv. Hynes stated both items are already being looked into.

A letter was received from Randy VonBernewitz and John Kowatch requesting hookup to Roxbury water and sewer for a garage they just purchased in the hamlet of Roxbury.

RESOLUTION #35 – WATER/SEWER HOOKUP VON BERNEWITZ & KOWATCH

On motion of Allen Hinkley second by Gene Cronk the following resolution was offered and adopted:

The Orphic Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of photographs from legendary rock photographer Bob Gruen. The show will present 46 photographs of rock greats including John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, The Clash, Debbie Harry, The Ramones and more.

Rock Seen at the Orphic will also include a Teenage Bedroom installation (as seen at MoMA). In addition, signed copies of Bob Gruen’s 14th book ROCK SEEN (Abrams 2011), a monograph spanning his long career, will be available at the gallery.

For forty years, Bob Gruen has been documenting the rock scene, capturing now iconic images of The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Led Zeppelin, New York Dolls, Blondie, The Ramones, and John Lennon and Yoko Ono among others and continues to work today with current acts Green Day and the Strypes. Bob Gruen says of his career, “Photography has led me to some great experiences and enduring relationships. Blurring the line between work and play, many of the people I met through my work have become friends; some are like family to me.”

Bob Gruen’s career began in 1965, when he shot his first concert photos at the Newport Folk Festival. “I was still a kid and a big Bob Dylan fan.” Bob Gruen recalls, “I talked my way into getting a photo pass so I could be down front. That was when Dylan played electric guitar and claimed rock’n’roll was American folk music and got booed off stage for it. After that I began taking photos a lot.” (Bob Gruen, Interview with Carlo McCormick, The New York Trash)

While shooting freelance work and photo stories for the underground rock magazine “Rock Scene,” Bob photographed local New York City bands “on stage, off stage, at home, at parties, and during time off”. “Many photos I was taking then weren’t used until years later; they weren’t considered to be news at the times, but now they are ‘history’ ” Bob says of his early photographs which document the very beginnings of what would later become a monumental rock scene at the now infamous New York City clubs CBGB and Max’s Kansas City where bands such as the Ramones and Blondie got their start.

Many of Bob Gruen’s iconic photographs began with unassuming introductions that became the catalyst for honest and enduring friendships. A hurried introduction to Ike and Tina Turner outside a concert began a friendship that resulted in Gruen’s first album cover, and later Gruen’s first concert tour.

In 1972, Gruen met John Lennon and Yoko Ono at a benefit concert, and later dropped some prints at their nearby apartment. This simple gesture began a close friendship between Bob Gruen, John Lennon, and Yoko Ono. Throughout the 1970’s Gruen worked as their personal photographer, documenting concerts and press conferences, as well as capturing serene moments between John and Yoko, and the first images of their son, Sean Lennon. In 1974, Gruen suggested photographing John Lennon on top of his New York apartment building, which would later become the hugely iconic image of John Lennon wearing the New York City T-Shirt.

Gruen’s photographs are in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London, and have been shown in the Museum of Modern Art’s 2009 exhibition, “Looking at Music: Side 2” and the Brooklyn Museum of Art’s 2009 exhibition, “Who Shot Rock & Roll”. Bob Gruen lives and works in New York City.
